SHALOM HOUSE

Shalom House was the first Jewish group home for adults with disabilities established in Arizona.  It opened in September 2001.  The three men who reside in Shalom House have developmental and other disabilities.  The home is staffed by a private agency licensed by the Arizona’s Division of Developmental Disabilities.

Rabbi William Berk of Temple Chai attended the open house and led guests in the blessings as the mezuzah was affixed to the front door.

The home is located on a corner lot in a quiet neighborhood. Within a five-mile radius, there are five synagogues, the Jewish Community Center, several shopping malls, movie theaters and a public library.  There is a bus stop two blocks from the home and a hospital six blocks away.

The residents are active in the Jewish community, attending services at a nearby synagogue and working out at the JCC two or three times a week.  The Yad B’Yad adult social group meets at Shalom house twice a month.

The residents of all three Jewish group homes (Shalom House, Keshet House and Simcha House) enjoy celebrating holidays and going out for activities together.
