SIBLING WORKSHOPS
                               Sibling Support Groups For Kids

Sibling workshops can provide an opportunity for children who have a brother or sister who has a disability to meet other siblings in a recreational setting in which they can both give and receive peer support.  The workshops are fun activities with trained facilitators; they are not group therapy. In the course of each two-hour gathering, the children play games, do arts & crafts, hear speakers about various disabilities and discuss their feelings for and concerns about their sibling who has special needs. The children are grouped by age. The workshops typically involve four to six meetings on Sunday afternoons.

There is a fee for participation; financial assistance may be available. For information, contact the Council office at (480) 629-5343 or info@cjsn.org

                    A Gathering for Adult Siblings

As their parents age, many adults who have a brother or sister with special needs will become the person responsible for the day-to-day and long-range issues that accompany their sibling.  Are those adult siblings fully informed about their sibling’s disabling condition as well as his or her medical, residential, vocational and social needs?  Do they understand guardianship, durable medical power of attorney, government entitlement programs like SSI, SSDI, ACCHS and DES-DD?  Let’s get together and discuss these and other areas of concern.  If the group would like guest speakers on these and other topics, CJSN will arrange for those speakers.

If you are interested in attending a gathering of adult siblings, contact (480) 629-5343 or becca@cjsn.org and tell us what evenings work best for you.  (Dates and location to be determined)
